East Anglia Wire Media Ltd. launched NorwichWire.co.uk because Norwich and Norfolk deserved better. For years, local news had been hollowed out — council decisions that shaped lives went unreported, community stories were overlooked, and business, culture and public affairs coverage had become thinner, less accountable. We saw a gap, and we decided to fill it with something built to last: a publication rooted in this region, run by people who live here, funded transparently and edited with care.
Why we exist
Norwich is a city with a distinct character — one of the best places to live, work and visit in the UK — but its local journalism had been stripped back. Major outlets pulled reporters out of the council chamber; court coverage became sporadic; and the texture of everyday Norfolk life — from the market traders on Gentleman’s Walk to the volunteers running village halls — was sidelined. We founded NorwichWire.co.uk to restore that coverage. Our journalists attend every Norwich City Council and Norfolk County Council meeting that matters. We report planning battles, transport decisions, school budgets and health service changes with the precision that comes from being on the ground. And we tell the stories of the people, businesses and cultural organisations that make East Anglia tick.
Our editorial philosophy
Under editor-in-chief William Hargreaves, our editorial policy is straightforward: publish nothing that has not been verified. We do not chase clicks with speculation. We do not run anonymous briefings. Every story carries a named byline, and every source is attributed unless there is a compelling safety or legal reason to protect it. William oversees corrections, editorial standards and publication decisions personally, and our fact-checking desk — led by Daniel Keane — reviews every sensitive piece before it goes live. We hold ourselves to the same standard we demand of the institutions we cover.
How we are organised
Our newsroom is built around specialist desks. Clara Benson, our managing editor, runs the daily planning and commissioning. Peter Ashcroft leads local government coverage. Megan Weller covers business and the economy. Isabelle Morton handles culture, events and lifestyle.
